The first postpartum weeks: what nobody really tells you
You expect the baby. What you often don't expect, or underestimate, is what happens to YOU. Honest summary.
Bleeding (lochia)
4-6 weeks. Starts red, turns pink, then brown, then yellowish. Use large specific pads (no tampons in the first 40 days).
The "baby blues"
In the first 10 days nearly all mamas cry for no apparent reason, feel vulnerable. Normal, hormonal. If it lasts beyond 2-3 weeks, talk to your OB-GYN or therapist — postpartum depression exists and is treatable.
Breastfeeding (if chosen)
First days can be intense: cracks, milk coming in, engorgement. Find a lactation consultant (IBCLC) right away — solves in 30 min things you'd cry over for days.
Sleep
Transformed. Sleep when the baby sleeps. Period. Other things can wait. Really.
The body
Belly doesn't vanish in 3 days. It takes months and that's OK. No rush with fitness — pelvic floor first.
Report immediately
