Week 26: what to expect

week 264 min read

You're on the edge between second and third trimester. The baby now weighs about 800g and is 35 cm long. Eyes are starting to open.

What you might feel

  • Stronger and more regular kicks (usually evening or after meals)
  • Lower back making itself felt
  • Some sleep difficulty with growing belly
  • Heartburn — uterus pushing on stomach

Practical to-do

  • Start thinking about birth class if not yet booked
  • Look for side-sleeping pillows
  • Elevate feet when seated — reduces swelling

Period visits

This is when the glucose test (load curve) is usually done. It takes a couple hours, may not be pleasant, but is important.

Report

Severe headache, sudden facial and hand swelling, upper-right pain, regular contractions, marked reduction in movement. Don't wait for the next visit.
