In pregnancy: Never While breastfeeding: Safe

Rare, but serious if it happens

Why

Usually eaten raw: Vibrio, norovirus, listeria risk. Avoid even if 'fresh of the day'.

It changes after the birth

You can eat this again while breastfeeding: the pregnancy-specific risks (listeria, toxoplasmosis, salmonella) no longer apply after birth. Keep normal food hygiene.

Instead

  • Mussels cooked until fully open
  • Cooked prawns
  • Sardines
